BetterLiving Sensory Cushion
Dementia is one of the most common types of cognitive impairment, especially in older Australians. Dementia describes a collection of symptoms that are caused by disorders affecting the brain.
It is not one specific disease. Dementia affects thinking, behaviour and the ability to perform everyday tasks.
Ideally suited to dementia patients, the Sensory Cushion is specifically designed to stimulate sensory and visual experiences. The cushion offers a range of pockets, zippers and materials that can be touched or stroked, and is designed to provide a spectrum of sensory experiences – visual, tactile, etc.
Made from a range of different materials which stimulate touch, the cushion also uses bright contrasting colours for visual stimulation. Along with stimulating the senses and occupying the hands, the cushion aids in the management of agitation and anxiety, keeping the user calm and distracted.
The cushion cover is made from a combination of polycotton, antipill polar fleece, crushed velvet, velour velvet, faux fur (100% acrylic) and shaggy plush minky, while the inner is made from 100% eco-friendly recycled drink bottles. Cover can be machine washed.
